Salem Lutheran Children's Center is licensed and approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.  The center's educational program is based upon a child-centered philosophy and includes the following curricular topics:

Physical Education

Language Arts

Social Studies

STEM Activities

Each month, the classes explore a different theme to gain understandings across these curriculum areas. Research shows that the practice of integrating curriculum areas around a theme helps learning become more relevant for children, enabling them to construct meaning and retain knowledge.

2-Day Three-Year-Old Preschool Programs

The three-year-old preschool program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Families may choose between the morning session which runs from 9:00 am to 11:30 am or the afternoon session which runs from 12:30 pm-3:00 pm.

3-Day and 5-Day Four-Year-Old Preschool Programs

We currently offer three different classes for our four-year-old children.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, families may choose between the morning session which runs from 9:00 am to 11:30 am or the afternoon session which runs from 12:30 pm-3:00 pm.

We also offer a transitional kindergarten class for our four-year-old children which meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  This program prepares children for the upcoming kindergarten year both academically, emotionally, and socially.

As an outreach of Salem Lutheran Church, parts of the preschool and daycare programs will have a Christian character. This will include prayers before meals and a Bible story told by the pastor every week.

All Day Preschool/Daycare

We offer the same child-centered philosophy and themed-based approach in our all-day preschool programs. This all day program is open year-round with two separate contracts - one for the school term and one for the summer program. Our center opens at 6:30 am and closes at 6:00 pm.

The preschool curriculum is formally taught Monday through Friday from approximately 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and learning experiences continue to take place throughout the day.   We have fun while learning!

Before and After School Care

Why choose our Before and After School Care Program?

  • Experienced Teachers, most of whom have higher degrees in education

  • We are open on most snow days and in-service days to offer care when Harford County Schools are closed

  • Planned activities to challenge and stimulate your child.  Your child will not be bored!

We offer before and after school care for students in kindergarten through fifth grades.  If Harford County schools are delayed 2 hours, then before-care students receive care for no extra fee.  If Harford County schools have an early dismissal, after-care students receive care for no extra fee.  We are also open on most school closing days and provide care on those days for a small fee.  Harford County Public Schools provides transportation from Salem to Jarrettsville Elementary School.
